An injury, disease, disability or functional loss can make it difficult to carry out everyday activities that most people take for granted.  This can lead to a loss of independence.  Together, we will work to help you regain and or learn to compensate for the loss of those functional capabilities.

 

Physical Therapy

The physical therapy team's goal is to maximize the resident's independence and the ability to function in daily life.  Individual treatment programs will:

improve walking and general mobility

bullet

increase strength, range of motion and coordination

bullet

recommend necessary adaptive equipment

bullet

promote wound healing

bullet

enhance balance and endurance

bullet

provide muscle re0education

bullet

reduce edema

bullet

provide family and caregiver training

 

Occupational Therapy

Occupation Therapy is designed to increase independence and productivity by considering personal goals and environmental demands when establishing a treatment program.  goals include:

bullet

increase independence and daily living skills, such as eating, dressing, personal care and homemaking

bullet

increasing joint mobility, muscle strength and coordination

bullet

providing adaptive equipment and teaching compensatory techniques

bullet

fabricating custom splints and orthosis to stabilize joints, reduce pain or prevent deformity

bullet

improving endurance through education in energy conservation and work simplification

bullet

evaluating the need for customized seating

 

 

Speech-Language Pathology

Speech-language pathology will help you optimize your talking and eating abilities by:

enhancing swallowing abilities with practice in compensating strategies

bullet

managing nutrition for adequate oral intake

bullet

improving communication skills by enhancing expression of verbal and written language

bullet

improving memory and problem-solving through thinking exercises

bullet

improving voice quality and facilitating language development

bullet

helping you adjust to hearing loss

bullet

providing caregiver and family training

Respiratory Therapy

The goal of respiratory therapy is to improve pulmonary hygiene and to maintain the individual's everyday living at its highest standard by:

nebulizer and bronchodilator therapy

bullet

chest physiotherapy/rehabilitation

bullet

oxygen therapy

bullet

education for residents/families

bullet

trach care

bullet

breathing retraining/energy conservation techniques

bullet

pulse oximetry test

bullet

arterial blood gas analysis

Restorative Nursing Program

Upon discharge from physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech-language pathology, residents can benefit from our restorative nursing program.  The purpose of this program is to assist residents in maintaining independence in all aspects of daily living as long as possible.

Services and Supplies Covered by Medicare:

meals and special diets

skilled nursing services

bullet

rehabilitation services-physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and pulmonary rehab

intravenous therapy

prescription medications

medical supplies, oxygen

durable medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.)

diagnostic testing

Services and Supplies Not Covered by Medicare:

custodial care services

bullet

private duty nurses

private room (unless it is determined to be medically necessary)

beautician and barber services

bullet

in-room telephones**

bullet

Medicare deductibles and co-insurance

bullet

services are covered as long as the resident meets the guidelines established by Medicare to receive the program

**Private telephones may be installed in the resident's room at a cost to the resident.

**Private cable television may be installed in the resident's room at a cost to the resident.
