A physical injury, disease, disability or functional loss can make it
difficult to carry out everyday activities that most people take for granted.
The loss of physical functions can lead to a loss of independence.
Together, we will work to help you regain, or learn to compensate for, the loss
of those functional capabilities.
Physical Therapy
The physical therapy team's goal is to maximize the resident's independence
and the ability to function in daily life. Individual treatment programs
will:
* improve walking and general mobility
* increase strength, range of motion and coordination
* recommend necessary adaptive equipment
* promote wound healing
* enhance balance and endurance
* provide muscle re-education
* reduce edema
* provide family and caregiver training
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy is designed to increase independence and productivity by
considering personal goals and environmental demands when establishing a
treatment program. Goals include:
* increasing independence and daily living skills, such as eating,
dressing, personal care and homemaking
* increasing joint mobility, muscle strength and coordination
* providing adaptive equipment and teaching compensatory techniques
* fabricating custom splints and orthosis to stabilize joints, reduce
pain or prevent deformity
* improving endurance through education in energy conservation and work
simplification
* evaluating the need for customized seating
Speech-Language Pathology
Speech-language pathology will help you optimize your talking and eating
abilities by:
* enhancing swallowing abilities with practice in compensating
strategies
* managing nutrition for adequate oral intake
* improving communication skills by enhancing expression of verbal and
written language
* improving memory and problem-solving through thinking exercises
* improving voice quality and facilitating language development
* helping you adjust to hearing loss
* providing caregiver and family training
Respiratory Therapy
The goal of respiratory therapy is to improve pulmonary hygiene and to
maintain the individual's everyday living at its highest standard by:
* nebulizer and bronchodilator therapy
* chest physiotherapy/rehabilitation
* oxygen therapy
* education for residents/families
* trach care
* breathing retraining/energy conservation techniques
* pulse oximetry test
* arterial blood gas analysis
